Research & Policy
My research and policy work focuses on the political and economic questions shaping Europe: how institutions govern markets, how states respond to economic and geopolitical pressure, and how borders, sovereignty and integration are renegotiated over time.
I have worked across academia, government, consulting and policy research, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis with policy evaluation, comparative research and strategic communication. My work has ranged from EU economic governance and industrial policy to financial regulation, cross-border cooperation and public-sector decision-making.
Research Themes
European Integration & Sovereignty
I am interested in how the European Union balances economic integration with national sovereignty, particularly in periods of crisis or institutional change.
My work has examined questions including the international role of the euro, European economic sovereignty, industrial and competition policy, and the political foundations of support for European integration.
Political Economy & Economic Governance
A recurring focus of my research is the relationship between political institutions and economic outcomes.
This includes monetary and fiscal governance, financial stability, industrial policy, public finance and the design of institutions intended to reconcile markets with wider political and social objectives.
Geoeconomics & Economic Security
I am particularly interested in the growing overlap between economics, foreign policy and security.
Questions of economic dependence, strategic autonomy, industrial capacity, trade, sanctions and the weaponisation of economic relationships increasingly blur the traditional boundaries between domestic economic policy and international affairs.
Borders & Cross-Border Governance
Borders are a recurring theme across both my academic and personal work.
I also contributed background research on Canada–US security cooperation in the Pacific border region to the Borders in Globalization project. My broader interests centre on how borders shape institutions, economies, identities and everyday life, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe.
Democracy, Institutions & Public Policy
More broadly, I am interested in how political institutions respond to social, economic and technological change.
My work has included policy evaluation, comparative institutional research and analysis of public attitudes, regulation and governance across European and North American contexts.

Selected Research & Policy Work
European policy evaluation
At Civic Consulting, I worked on large-scale research and evaluation projects for the European Commission, including EU-wide studies involving economic analysis, survey research, comparative legal research and policy evaluation.
My work included econometric analysis, large-N datasets and coordination of researchers across all EU Member States, as well as translating complex evidence into findings and recommendations for policymakers.
Strategic research & executive advice
At the Hertie School, I worked in the President’s Office supporting Henrik Enderlein and the institution’s senior leadership.
My role combined research, strategic analysis and communication: preparing briefings, speeches, presentations and background material on European and international policy questions and translating complex academic and political debates into material for institutional decision-making.
Academic research
At the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and in university research roles, I contributed to social-science research, academic publications and quantitative analysis.
My earlier research experience included analysing labour-market data using Stata and working with comparative political and economic questions.
Public-sector economic analysis
In the Canadian and BC governments, I worked on economic and regulatory policy, including financial regulation and intergovernmental fiscal relations.
This included building quantitative models to support public funding decisions and analysing legislation, regulatory frameworks and international standards.
